Parental leave policies
- Parental leave offered by Checkly: TLDR: Up to 14 weeks paid in maximum 2 blocks before the first birthday. If your jurisdiction of employment provides partial pay assistance, Checkly will contribute the remaining amount to reach 100% of base pay during parental leave.
- Paternity leave offered by Spain:
- Up to 19 weeks, always taken in full weeks (7, 14, 21 days, etc)
- 6 weeks uninterrupted after childbirth: mandatory. (The father can anticipate the period up to 4 weeks before the expected date of childbirth.)
- 13 weeks before the first birthday: optional
- Paid by Social Security: The economic benefit consists of an income equivalent to 100% of their regulatory base (from the month before the birth or adoption). For monthly salaried employees, this is calculated by dividing their monthly base by 30.
The maximum daily benefit in 2025 is €163.65, with a monthly maximum of €4,909.50 for a 30-day month or €5,073.15 for a 31-day month.
- This benefit is exempt from income tax, but you can voluntarily request a tax withholding from the Social Security Office to avoid underpayment of withholding taxes for that year.
- Nursing leave
⚠️ ****If you consider taking accumulated nursing leave, please let Kaylie know immediately as this will be counted as part of the max 14 weeks that Checkly pays.
So for example, if you take the full 19 weeks of paternity leave and 2 weeks of nursing leave, Checkly will pay for the 2 weeks of nursing leave + top up 12 weeks of paternity leave. The remaining 7 weeks will be covered by the regular statutory benefits (capped pay).
How to apply
🫄Before the baby arrives
- Inform your manager and Kaylie.
- Read the Checkly parental leave policy.
- Add your parental leave in Humaans. Reason: “Parental”. If the birth occurs earlier or later than expected, the leave can be adjusted accordingly.
- Add your parental leave in the Time off tab in Remote. If the birth occurs earlier or later than expected, the leave can be adjusted accordingly.
- Ping Kaylie so she can follow up with Remote to see if they’ve got all they need or if something else needs to be done (like add an incentive).
- Inform Kaylie about whether there’s a chance you’ll take accumulated nursing leave.
- Transition plan: Babies can come early! Please work on a transition plan (day2day responsibilities, meetings you own, deadlines, other tasks...) with your manager.
- Communication: Different people want different levels of communication while they’re off, make sure you talk to your manager about your preferences:
- What if there's an emergency: call, whatsapp, email...? What constitutes an emergency?
- Do you want to stay in the. loop? If yes, about what and how? (“No” is a valid answer and we encourage people to disconnect completely.)
👶 When the baby is born
- Inform your manager and Kaylie your baby is born (or the entire team if you want!)
- Optional: Adjust leave dates in Humaans and Remote if needed.
- Upload a copy of the birth certificate + “Libro de Familia” to the Files section in their Remote profile.
- Reach out to Remote by emailing [email protected] (cc [email protected]) to confirm the upload and let them know how many weeks you’re taking.
- Remote will notify the Social Security Office and provide a paternity certificate to activate benefits.
- If you’d like to apply for a tax reduction, you’ll need to upload the Model 145 form to your Remote profile and inform them via email or live chat once uploaded.
