- Identify advocates and allies who believe in you and are supportive of you professionally.
- Connect with peers from a similar background as you: They better understand what you’re going through and can also help rid yourself of doubt. You’ll probably also see you’re much closer to their level than you thought you were.
- Set realistic standards and goals for yourself, maybe sense-check with your manager or a peer.
- Reframe the inner critic: Instead of battling that voice, understand its intention. Your inner critic is trying to keep you safe, but it’s often outdated and overprotective. Acknowledge it, and gently say: “Thanks, I’ve got this.”
- The 5-second rule (from Mel Robbins): Feel the fear, count down 5-4-3-2-1… and act. Confidence grows with action.
- Borrow someone else’s thoughts: When your brain won’t help you, borrow a mentor, coach or friend’s voice of reason.
- Claim your space: Use body language, vocal authority and intention to take up space, even when you don’t feel sure.
- Keep a Brag Book: Track your wins, achievements, and moments of courage. When doubt creeps in, remind yourself of your growth. One of the easiest ways to do is to keep screenshots of praise in Notion or a GDrive folder.
- Name it to tame it: Acknowledge stress instead of suppressing it.
- Circle of control: Focus on what you can influence.
- Recharge rituals: Micro-moments to reset (e.g., going outside, movement, screen breaks).
- Reframing setbacks: Ask “What is this teaching me?”
- Separate fact from fiction: What are the hard facts (like evidence in court) vs what are my assumptions and the stories I’m making up in my head?
